Conducted in collaboration with Tejaswini Kulkarni, MD, MPH, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Lisa Lancaster, MD, from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Jessica Shore, RN, PhD, from the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF), the study identifies critical barriers to treatment, opportunities for improved community engagement, and the need for patient-centered approaches in the development of new therapeutics. Initial findings from this research were presented at the 2023 Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation Summit, the American Thoracic Society 2024 International Conference, and the CHEST 2024 Annual Meeting.

The research, which included 106 people living with IPF across the United States, utilized both qualitative interviews and online surveys to capture their experiences. Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is a rare, progressive and fatal lung disease characterized by irreversible scarring of lung tissue.
