NASHVILLE, Tenn. / Jan 31, 2024 / Business Wire / HCA Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE:HCA), one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers, today announced that 54 of its hospitals were recognized on the 2024 Healthgrades America’s 250 Best Hospitals list for superior performance in providing care for conditions and procedures across multiple specialty lines and areas. Using a methodology focused solely on patient outcomes, this award recognizes the top 5% of hospitals in the country for clinical excellence.
“We strive for the highest standards of patient care,” said Dr. Michael Cuffe, executive vice president and chief clinical officer of HCA Healthcare. “This achievement is a testament to our hospital colleagues’ steadfast dedication to providing high-quality patient care.”
Independent, publicly available data is used to determine a hospital’s eligibility for the list. According to Healthgrades, a hospital must have evaluations in at least 21 of the 31 Healthgrades procedures and conditions using Medicare inpatient data from the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) file from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to be considered for this award. Hospitals are then ranked based on an analysis of risk-adjusted mortality and complications rates for common procedures and conditions.
In addition to Healthgrades’ 250 Best Hospitals list, a small percentage of hospitals are recognized for consistently delivering clinical excellence year over year in America’s 100 Best Hospitals and America’s 50 Best Hospitals lists. Hospitals that have received an America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award consecutively over an extended period of time are evaluated by their tenure on the list and their current year’s performance to determine Healthgrades’ top 1% and 2% of hospitals list.
Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina received the America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award for being within the top 1% in the nation for consistent clinical excellence. This is the hospital’s ninth consecutive year being recognized by Healthgrades.
